My Own Girl

by Brown Eyed Girl

Did you notice me as I walked by?

With Dark hair, dark eyes,

Bad posture and a little on the chubby side?

Who can blame you?

I am just one girl.

I play my part.

I serve my purpose.

It’s quite desirable,

On the surface.

The truth might not be so perfect.

My fingers are too fat for diamond rings.

My fringe is never straight.

I lie to all my mates.

I never face facts

And admit I need to put on an act.

Yes, I’m just thatgirl.

Yet, I’m two contrasting people;

Both content and restless.

A revolutionary and a conformist.

I exist in my own extremes

Still finding my identity

Or so it seems.

What of it? I’m just a girl.

I think way too much.

I care what people say.

I hate the way I look

And my own impulsive ways.

So what? I’m being a girl.

I wish I understood the world.

I wish I understood people.

Why they act the way they do,

Their logic in how they feel.

But I am just one girl.

I hope to change some lives;

Leave everlasting prints on a few.

Change the way you see the world

Perhaps surprise you…BOO!

I could do that. I’m that kind of girl

I am what you want me to be:

A shape shifter,

An anomaly.

I’m a freak show,

A friend

Or a foe.

I am my own girl.

I like this, it's got a very good meaning behind it... the insecurities girls tend to have, but you are saying so what? your you, and you cant change it. you may not like how you look, or whatever. Your writing in what i would say is 70% or so of the worlds teenage girl population. full of insecurities and whatnot.

This is really inspirational to tell you the truth. i like stuff like this, it has personal meaning behind it, and is also confronting everyday problems.

please, write some more things like this! i might try myself!

this is one of my favourite pieces i have read.

5/5 for effort
5/5 for quality

loved it.!:)

I love the beginning uncertainty, the self-sacrificial doubt, the final acceptance at the end. This is the poem for all girls, both big and thin. This poem will speak to everyone of you, for three reasons:

1. They will identify with it
2. They will appreciate it
3. They will love it.

Great work, beautiful rhyme, and good luck on your writing!

I love this. It has kind of a wonky rhyme scheme that's there sometimes and not others, but it has spunk - I like spunk. Being a girl and never having considered myself pretty, I definitely relate, and I know others will too. Your words are simple but powerful, which is hard to master, so kudos for creating this successfully tough-girl poem.

Keep writing,
